Privacy Policy

We at UKZN Extended Learning (UEL) have designed our business practices to safeguard your privacy.

Our privacy policy applies to the web pages related to our website including our Learner Management System, Customer Relations Management systems, our Financial processing systems and other business-related online systems. This policy must be read in conjunction with the terms and conditions of the services that you have subscribed, enrolled or enlisted with UEL.

  1. Our website may collect certain information about your visit, such as the locations from where you are browsing, the device you are using, the source address which you clicked, the campaign name, date, time of the visit and the pages you visited whilst you were on our website. This information is used to help improve the site, analyse trends, and administer the site. This information also helps us to understand how our site is navigated, how many visitors arrived at specific pages, the length and frequency of a stay at our website, etc. We believe that knowing more about you can enable us to serve you better.
  2. In addition, UEL web pages may place “cookies” on your personal computer. “Cookies” are small identifiers, similar to a license plate, that help us to recognize you if you visit our website again. Cookies are used to help us personalise your viewing experiences. Cookies are not designed to be used to get data from your hard drive, your e-mail or any other personal data about you. You can reject cookies by changing your browser settings. However, please note that if you reject our cookies it is possible that some web pages may not properly load, your access to certain information might be denied or you might have to enter information about you or your application, inquiry or purchase more than once.

There will be times, such as when you complete an application for a course, or submit your details onto our newsletter or purchase a product directly from UEL when we will need to obtain personally identifiable information from you. Such personally identifiable information may include your name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number or identity/passport number. The information we receive about you or conveyed to us may be used by us or shared by us with our corporate affiliates, agents, vendors and others to help process or complete a transaction; to comply with any law, regulation, audit or court order; to help improve our website or the products or services we offer; for research; to better understand our clients’ needs; to develop new offerings, and to alert you to new products and services in which you may be interested.
  4. The information will not be used for anything other than the purposes stated in point 3 above which will be defined as UEL’s Website Terms and Conditions. Furthermore, by accessing our website or downloading content from the website that we have obtained your consent to comply with the Privacy Policy, to receive informational material from us including promotions, price changes and information related to your course or course application.
  5. None of your personal information will be sold or made available other than is necessary to provide you with a service, complete a transaction or to comply with any law, regulation, audit or court order. However, should you wish to withhold your consent please inform us of this in writing to: uelmanco@ukzn.ac.za or enquiries.uel@ukzn.ac.za You may also request access to your personal data that we have processed via UEL’s website and /or to update your details or preferences.   1. We safeguard your information using known encryption, security standards and procedures. We also assess new technology for protecting client information on an ongoing basis. Although UKZN Extended Learning (UEL) will take reasonable precautions including cybersecurity measures, regular updates on computer viruses and other threats to the security of data, UEL does not 100% guarantee the security of any data passing through its networks. You are encouraged to remain vigilant in the protection of your private data by making necessary inquiries before sharing your information/data with entities including UEL and its employees, corporate affiliates, agents, vendors, contractors, etc.

This constitutes UKZN Extended Learning’s privacy policy and will be updated as regulated by law on our website. It outlines your data protection rights, how we process your information as well as the process you may follow to remove your information from our systems. You are reminded that we are obliged by law to retain information where required by other specific regulations to which we also adhere.
