This programme is designed to build the capacity of traditional and elected leaders and to promote morals and good governance in traditional communities. This is in line with current trends not in South Africa but other African countries. It stems from the realisation that traditional leaders play a key role in the governance of a country and therefore building their capacity has become crucial if they have to be effective and efficient.
Firstly the programmes aims to ground traditional leaders and elected councillors in contemporary leadership theories and introduces them to principles of good governance within a prescribed legal framework, in order to deepen their understanding of inter-structural relations within defined spheres. Secondly, it seeks to impart general management, strategic planning and performance management techniques and skills, and thus expose traditional leaders and councillors to current development approaches which deal with community development challenges.
Candidates should have an interest in Leadership and Good Governance issues, must occupy leadership positions and have the potential of being appointed as traditional leaders. Others may occupy leadership positions as elected councillors
Completion of National Senior Certificate (NSC Degree) OR Mature candidates may also apply on the basis of industry experience and recognition of prior learning
