About this programme:

Project Management is a fundamental theme to understand and work in any business environment. Projects are the organisational way to make innovation happen, realise any kind of custom solution, or change how an organisation operates.

Project Management is the set of capabilities, skills and tools employed to properly work on projects. This course builds on the existing three-day learning programme of Competent Project Management, and is designed to address the skills shortage in the public and private sectors around project management.

It is designed for experienced individuals in the public or private sector who wish to improve their project management skillset, new recruits with Grade 12 as part of a job creation/youth development initiative, and delegates who attended Competent Project Management and wish to build on their previous training. It therefore is used to upgrade existing skills and knowledge to ensure a higher level of success in the discipline and practice of project management.

  • Understand the core principles and tenets of project management in line with international standards
  • Be familiar with concepts such as project life cycle, project costing, quality, scheduling, stakeholder management, health and safety, and environmental impact

  • Project Environment and its Dynamics contextualises the discipline of project management and its role in business
  • Traditional Project Management, Methodologies and Processes provides delegates with a theoretical framework of project management
  • Project Selection, Initiation and Scoping allows for discussion pre-execution
  • Identifying Project Activities, Estimating Duration, Resource Requirements and Costing deals with the technical aspects of project management
  • Constructing and Analysing the Project Network Diagram is analytical in nature
  • Agile Project Execution deals with project methodology
  • Recruiting, Organising, and Managing the Project Team addresses the HR requirements of project management
  • Project Performance Reporting and Closure is important for monitoring and evaluation
  • Risk and Stakeholder Management addresses financial and stakeholder considerations
  • Integration with Business Operations and Other Organisational Considerations is important since a project is usually managed within a business context
  • Introduction to the use of a project management software as a tool for project administration introduces delegates to software available, which may be used in managing projects

Who should attend:

  • Individuals in the public or private sector who already have two year’s (or longer) industry experience and wish to improve their project management skill set due to career development opportunities
  • New recruits in public or private sector with Grade 12
  • Delegates who attended Competent Project Management may wish to build on their previous training

Entrance Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and relevant industry work experience in the public or private sector or
  • Successful completion of the Competent Project Management course, or
  • Evidence of prior learning with at least two to three year’s industry experience

Estimated NQF level:

Short learning programmes are not registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF); hence they do not have NQF levels. This programme is delivered at an estimated NQF level 6.
