This short programme is one of a suite designed to address the national shortage of suitably qualified personnel in construction health and safety (H&S) management. The programme builds on the Introduction to Construction Health and Safety short programme and equips participants with advanced skills to manage all aspects of construction health and safety through the life cycle of the construction process through all its phases from project inception to demolition or deconstruction of the constructed facility or installation. The programme will provide participants with a well-rounded, broad educational experience that will equip them with the knowledge base, competences and skills, underpinned by the theories, methodologies and principles essential to the effective management of construction health and safety on construction projects (both private and public).
There are currently very few, if any, short programmes that focus specifically on construction occupational health and safety instead of health and safety generically. This programme addresses this gap because it recognises the uniqueness of the construction industry and its associated challenges in terms of its nature, constantly changing work environment, complexity of the management of resources such as labour, materials, plant and equipment and finance, legislative and regulatory framework, and lack of knowledge, competence and skills relative to management of the occupational health and safety risks associated with construction activities and operations. The programme is designed as an advanced level course on construction health and safety.
