About this programme:
This programme is designed for delegates who want to improve their practical knowledge and understanding of South African Sign Language in order to improve their communicative language skills levels. The programme reflects the need to address the requirements of the disabled community, and government’s requirement for business to employ staff from the disabled community. The programme will teach delegates how to communicate effectively with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
The motivation for offering this programme is to assist delegates to achieve an appropriate level of language proficiency in South African Sign Language, which will allow delegates to communicate with the Deaf community.
How you will benefit. You will learn to:
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate with the South African Deaf community successfully
- Develop communication skills using South African Sign Language to be able to communicate and understand more complex concepts such as conveying emotions and abstract concepts using South African Sign Language
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Deaf Culture within South Africa

- Rules of communication with deaf people

Delegates interested in learning Sign Language across all sectors and communities in South Africa, or who wish to improve their South African Sign Language skills
Entrance requirements:
No prior learning or experience is required
Duration:
12 sessions – 3 hours (evenings), one session per week over 12 successive weeks (3 months)
