As seasons change, people need all the knowledge they can acquire on how to take care of their hair all year long. We face different problems when it comes to maintaining our hair and preventing hair loss. With the Introductory Masterclass to Hair Loss and Scalp Disorders for Hair Stylists, you will be provided with all the information you need to promote healthy hair growth and detect any hair loss disorders early.
After a recent interview with Professor Ncoza Dlova, Dermatologist and Head Dean of School of Clinical Medicine Skin and Hair at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), more information was ascertained about the upcoming Masterclass. The Masterclass is founded by Professor Dlova and is deeply rooted from her studies and discovery of the knowledge gap and misperceptions within the hair and skin condition field.
“Hair loss is found to be one of the common conditions that affects people from a young age all over the world and it is essential for individuals to understand what causes hair loss, the treatments available most suitable for their scalps and preventative measures one would need to follow to avoid hair loss”.
Professor Dlova also emphasised on the importance of individuals learning more about their hair, so to ensure they are familiar with the correct products and nutrients your hair requires. This Masterclass is therefore as important for individuals as it is for hairstylists, as being well informed will allow individuals to avoid such conditions.
Did You Know?
- The maximum time you should keep braids/hair extensions is one month in a year
- Over styling your hair can lead to hair loss
- Hair loss does not only affect your scalp but also eyebrows, eyelashes, and other parts of the body
- Baldness is not caused by hair products or frequent hair washing[1]
Hair is a symbol of one’s youthfulness and vitality and losing it may have a significant impact on an individual’s well-being. Although hair loss may be caused by underlying medical conditions it is paramount to understand the root of the cause, to get proper treatment. According to Professor Dlova, “Hair conditions are now in the top 5 conditions that are dealt with in both public and private health”. This highlights the need to educate individuals in hair care. The Masterclass aims to assist individuals in translating “scientific jargon to simpler terms” and carries a wide range of benefits which includes more information on how chemicals and hairstyles can damage hair; as well as learning to identify, diagnose and refer hair and scalp disorders appropriately.
This Masterclass is presented in partnership with L’Oreal and features an international line-up of esteemed facilitators including Dr Yolanda Lenzy (Dermatologist, Washington DC); Dr Achiamah Osei-Tutu (Dermatologist, NYC); Professor Maria F.
