UKZN Extended Learning recently hosted a successful first block session on the 5th of August 2020 for our Emerging Managers Programme. The interactive online sessions covered modules that are split into two block sessions, namely ‘Managing for Impact’ and ‘Management in Context’. The Emerging Managers Programme is suitable for individuals that have been identified as future leaders or newly appointed in their management role. This 6-day course was facilitated by a few of our illustrious facilitators: Dr. Preeya Daya, Liz Witherspoon, Julie Elliot and Dr Rumi Kimmie. Programme modules covered included Business Communication, Leadership Development, Introduction to Finance, and People Management. The online experience with our adapted learning methodology allows for delegates to permeate the communication barrier as they still get the experience of engaging in group activities throughout this course.

“We had 14 delegates from organisations such as University of KwaZulu-Natal, KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, ICC and Transnet present. The delegates came in with a positive attitude and were open to our updated learning methodology. As much as it was a new experience, many seemed to be pleasantly surprised at their dexterity”, stated Mrs. Bianca Cochrane, one of the course Managers. There is also a shared consensus amongst delegates that being appointed as a new manager can be a daunting task, wrapped in a significant load of responsibilities. This programme has given them the relevant tools to confidently take up the challenge of these added responsibilities. Our diverse set of facilitators aided in sharing different perspectives on management and leadership.

The second block session is set to commence on the 2nd of September 2020. Key focus areas such as the fundamentals of management and competencies required for effective management; leadership development and business communication will be addressed. The desired outcome of this programme is to help future leaders harness the process skills that are required of them and mobilise their respective teams to reach and surpass their business goals in the organisation.

We pride ourselves on our holistic approach to higher education and make sure you leave with practical skills that are easily transferable to everyday scenarios.
