The City of uMhlathuze recently launched the inaugural MAPKZN Business Fair where stakeholders from Mozambique and South Africa attended with the purpose to form trade synergies between companies located along the coastline. The event was based on the Maputo-Katembe Bridge, the longest suspension bridge on the African content, which forms part of a corridor that connects the Mozambican capital, Maputo, to Richards Bay, and all the way to Durban.

The event was attended by key stakeholders from both countries where thought provoking discussions were centered on the commercialisation of the newly launched bridge which will, in return, promote job creation particularly in various sectors such as agriculture, oil, gas, mining, energy, logistics and tourism. Although this ‘trade border’ has not yet been formally commercialised, businesses operating in the aforementioned sectors are now tasked with the responsibility to form meaningful business synergies. The MAPKZN Trade Initiative event presented a perfect networking platform and will continue to facilitate dynamic discussions over time as this was only the beginning of many more events to come.

Having sponsored such a distinctive event, we look forward to providing training and development which caters to the needs of the companies involved in this trade initiative. Our passion is to capacitate individuals and organisations with the critical knowledge, skills and resources in order to achieve their full potential. Our sector and subject-based programmes in areas such as Trade and Investment Promotion, Food Security, Language proficiency, Finance and Project Management will not only promote seamless trade synergies, but also enhance leadership skills and work knowledge. We are delighted to have been part of such an intriguing initiative which empowers our people to collaborate and work together as Africans.
