This year, UKZN Extended Learning (UEL), celebrated its Fourth Annual Golf Day at Durban Country Club on the 14th October 2016.
Although UEL staff worked tirelessly all week on their weather predictions and anti-rain dances, there were still some occasional showers throughout the day. I’m sure however, that the golfers appreciated these refreshing showers after having to walk the course that day.
Approximately 120 players teed off on the 1st and 10th tees where the pressure was on our golfers right from the start. Golfers had to navigate their shots, aiming for the greens and praying not to hit any of the exquisite Audi cars on display at these two tee boxes. Other tee box sponsors were Pango, Prontaprint, Panish Seafoods and JDS events.
Overall the day went off well and the 4 ball teams had a wonderful experience. After their round of golf, the players were treated to a mini massage and well deserved shower before joining us for the buffet dinner and prize giving. A warm welcome address was delivered by UEL CEO, Simon Tankard and then guests were addressed by our two gold sponsors, Liberty Corporate and Standard Bank
Sihle Sikakane, Customer Services Manager KZN/EL (Liberty Corporate) and Themba Rikhotso, Head of Sales (Standard Bank) addressed guests on the importance of Math and Physics for the youth of South Africa. They also highlighted the importance of education as a strong foundation for job creation and employment. Other major sponsors included Bidvest Bank, Affinian ICT Solutions and Quantum Solutions.
Prizes were awarded to the top 12 4 balls, with the winning 4 ball awarded a Hisense metallic bar fridge. Lucky draw prizes were also awarded which ranged from speaker systems to relaxing holidays. Special mention must be made to all our sponsors who partnered with us at our golf day.
