Fifty-five delegates arrived at the Greyville Racecourse to attend their graduation after successful completion of UKZN Extended Learning’s flagship programme – the Management Development Programme (MDP). This event signified to each graduand, the last 6 months of intensive practical and theoretical learning and training. The ceremony took place on the 21st September 2016.
Ms Charlotte Mokoena, HR Executive from Tongaat Hulett was the guest speaker of which she gave a powerful and inspiring address to delegates. She called on each delegate to step up and ‘own’ their future, which belongs to managers, leader’s, community members and the larger society alike.
At each MDP graduation, a cheque is presented to a charity on behalf of UKZN Extended Learning and the delegates. The money is raised from the Marketing Strategy module whereby delegates are split into groups and are given a business challenge. They are required to sell a product or service in order to make the biggest profit amongst groups, in a limited amount of time. The profits generated from this practical application are then matched by UEL and donated to the winning group’s nominated charity.
The cheque was presented to Mr P B Masango, the principal from Hlalindlela High School. He indicated how this money would be used to maintain the school and ultimately ensure greater social upliftment of learners. This, coincidently tied in with Charlotte’s plea for people to take responsibility for their own futures.
The graduation ended off with dinner and networking.
