As we listen, watch and read the news on a daily basis, we realise that our safety is not guaranteed, even when driving through our neighbourhoods. Through a safety and awareness initiative, UKZN Extended Learning (UEL) decided to invite Johann von Bargen – the ‘Traffic Guy’ from East Coast Radio to offer some anti-hijacking tips to its employees. Johann gave a thorough presentation on personal safety tips and insights in order to cut down the possibility of being hijacked, without adding any extra costs or equipment to your vehicle.

The presentation included the origin and history of hijacking in SA, hijacking statistics, how to conduct yourself in threatening situations, what to do when you are travelling with children, typical points at intersections to pay attention to, different methods used by hijackers, and many other useful tips. Being observant while driving is fundamental and Johann urges all drivers to implement this tip as an enhanced security measure. UEL cares about the wellbeing of its employees at work and outside of work premises and would like to wish you all safe driving experiences.
