Safety, Health and Environment Management in the Workplace

The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Management Training Course debuted on Thursday, 13 October 2016 at UKZN Extended Learning. Delegates were welcomed with an arrival tea and introduced to the course facilitator, Professor Theodore Haupt. Professor Haupt is a UKZN academic in the School of Engineering, Department of Construction and also has over 39 years of experience in the construction industry.

The course is run in block sessions for 3 consecutive days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday over 3 weeks and offers delegates both extensive theoretical knowledge and practical experiential learning which aims to equip delegates with the essential skills and competencies required to ensure effective SHE Management within the workplace.

The SHE Management Training Course encompasses the following essential modules;  Legislation, Policies and Procedures, Fundamental Issues in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment, Fundamental Issues in Occupational Health, Fundamental issues related to the Environment, SHE Theories and Principles, Introduction to Risk Management and SHE Management Systems.

Delegates were offered the opportunity to participate in site visits at Toyota, Illovo, Hulamin and National Ship Chandlers. This afforded them the opportunity to be introduced and acquainted with these various organisations’ safety systems, turning theory into meaningful observation.  The site visits formed one of the many highlights of the programme.
