The skills of a forensic technology expert will need to be adjusted. The pandemic accelerated the mass shift to working from home to hybrid schedules, and it looks likely to be here to stay. What was once considered the future of work is becoming the current standard. With this comes several challenges for organisations, particularly with technology, risk, and legal operations.
A group of delegates recently completed the UKZN Extended Learning (UEL) Certificate in Forensic Investigation Techniques programme to adapt to this shift regarding forensic investigations. We, at UEL, make sure our delegates receive a world-class experience, with facilitators that speak on the individuals’ needs and expectations. With our most recent group, there was a consensus amongst delegates that the facilitators were always well prepared and their presentations were excellent and relevant. Our facilitators also made the online learning experience easier while exceeding many of the delegates’ expectations. The delegates expressed that the duration of the programme was appropriate for the content, and the material was relevant to this pandemic era. Therefore, potential delegates can be assured that there is a good balance between theory and practical use in the workplace within the content.
Working away from the office increases the methods by which data collection can be performed. The rapid increase in remote working technologies to accommodate this shift is driving demand for skills in analysing these new methods at a forensic level. Forensic investigators also need to be tech-savvy to cope with the change to working online. The Certificate in Forensic Investigation Techniques programme aims to equip delegates with the essential competencies of forensic investigation relevant to the criminal justice system and commercial crime. After completing the programme, delegates will be able to undertake forensic investigations with an appreciation of law, forensic auditing, investigation techniques and the ethical implications.
