Organisational challenges place new and increasing demands on managers who have to develop new competencies in order to proactively recognise opportunities and manage challenges. One way to accomplish this, is by ensuring an effective management team through effective project management development.
The Road Accident Fund recently consulted with UKZN Extended Learning (UEL) on their expertise on a three day Competent Project Management course. The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is a state insurer established by law to provide insurance cover to all drivers of motor vehicles in South Africa in respect of damage caused as a result of a traffic accident. RAF consulted UEL, and a customised programme was established that best suited RAF’s requirements for project management training. The facilitator of the course was Mr Mondli Mbambo, President of project management South Africa, leading project management practitioner and specialist for several organisations.
The three day course was aimed in creating a different perspective in managing various projects for Road Accident Fund. During the class sessions, Mr Mondli Mbambo used real life cases including the projects he has worked on, which left the delegates captivated. The sessions were interactive as the course did not only provide the delegates with theory but with a practical understanding of the processes involved in project management as well. The themes included project processes such as: project planning, project risk management and strategy and the technical skills required to ensure a project is successful.
The course concluded with a discussion summarising proceedings, outlining priorities for the Road Accident Fund projects and strategising for progress. One of the delegates, Thandile Gumede, the Learning and Development co-ordinator for Road Accident Fund in Durban, had positive things to say about the three days sessions, “The content is interesting, the level and depth of information is just right. I know enough to understand concepts but not to the extent the facilitator went through, in which I will be applying them for future projects”.
