UKZN Extended Learning hosted an HR Business Breakfast on the 23rd June 2016 which brought together various HR practitioners from numerous organisations.
The guest speaker, Ms Charlotte Mokoena, Tongaat Hullet’s Human Resources Executive gave an engaging talk on the challenges facing South Africa, and how these challenges have extended into the workplace. The sub-standard quality of education for the majority of South Africans, exacerbated by shortages of work opportunities and poorly located, inadequate infrastructure limits social cohesion, and continues to marginalise the poor. Charlotte demonstrated how this polarisation of society, as a result, has crept into work life too and how HR practitioners need to take cognisance of this fact.
In order to respond to society and business dynamics, it is vital to understand the dynamics of society and the communities in which an organisation operates. One needs to be fully aware of the impact and or implications for the organisation if such issues are not addressed including employees’ societal existence, and how important it is to identify the link between society, the organisations strategic goals and the human resource function, and the priorities inherent.
The breakfast concluded over tea and eats, followed by a networking session.
