UKZN Extended Learning recently sponsored the Project Management South Africa (PMSA) Conference that took place from the 18th – 19th April 2016. This conference was aimed at exploring how Project Management principles and concepts have been applied in order to achieve success, irrespective of the vision, mission or industry of a business.
Dr Imtiaaz Sooliman, Founder of Gift of the Givers, was one of the guest speakers invited to open the second day of the conference. He aptly demonstrated how effective project management can be the main driver towards assisting an organisation or country to optimise performance. Gift of the Givers epitomises this via crisis management by means of relief projects, stakeholder engagement, risk management and logistics. It has been involved by providing aid and support, and consistently exemplifying its devotion to humanity by assisting in worldwide crises. These include the Bosnia War 1992 – 1995 and the 2004 Tsunami, providing assistance to Somalia and Sri Lanka from the aftermath of the devastation it caused.
What is evident is that no matter what the project undertaken by Gift of the Givers (from disaster management, to agriculture, to education or housing) the smooth execution of such is determined by effective and efficient project management.
UKZN Extended Learning was proud to be a sponsor and part of a conference which has enabled organisations such as the Gift of the Givers to play such an integral role in society and the world alike.
