Every manager needs to understand finance if they are to play an active role in ensuring their organisation achieves its objects. Recently, various managers of Umhlathuze Municipality attended a three-day in-house training programme in order to enhance their financial management knowledge for the benefit of their respective departments within the municipality.

Although not every manager needs the same level of skill and understanding as specialist financial managers, a good knowledge of the key concepts of prudent financial management, such as modern financial accounting, should equip all managers with the knowledge they require. In her quest to transfer all her financial management knowledge and skills, Mrs Navitha Sewpersadh facilitated the programme outstandingly. Navitha is a chartered accountant and also an academic, lecturing financial accounting to the PGDA/Honours class, as well as supervising research at UKZN. She has 10 years’ managerial experience, three of which were at a senior management capacity.

Our delegates had an impactful training as they can now speak the language of finance and possess an understanding of terms such as budgeting, forecasting, working capital, triple bottom line and reporting. They stated they are now more confident as they are more knowledgeable on concepts such as cash flow and profitability. Going forward, they believe that they would be more eligible to examine the financial health of their departments. They aim to do this by identifying problems and inefficiencies which have a direct influence on their finances, as well as have an appreciation of how their resolution will improve financial performance.

If you would also like to improve your financial knowledge and overall performance as a manager – whether you are in Sales and Marketing, Warehousing and Logistics, Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, or any other non-financial management role, please contact us:
